Maximus: God has not and will not avenge the attacks on Christians

St Samuel funeral 2018 no 2

After every sectarian or terrorist attack on Copts in Egypt, there are a lot of odd views which flood social media comments that suggest ‘God will avenge’ or the ‘heaven will respond’ and a lot of this nonsense has no biblical basis.  Mahfouz Maximus is a spokesperson for The Australian Coptic Movement Association.

God has not and will not avenge the attacks on Christians

After every sectarian or terrorist attack on Copts in Egypt, there are a lot of odd views which flood social media comments that suggest ‘God will avenge’ or the ‘heaven will respond’ and a lot of this nonsense has no biblical basis.

I know for sure that God does not leave his devotees and does not ignore injustice, but divine intervention is not something that we can predict here on earth.

That is why we must abandon our speculations of God’s justice and focus on our ‘God given’ rights to defend ourselves whilst demaning our rights.

I know for sure that these beliefs are a natural result of people who speak in religion more than science and logic, but I find it difficult to accept such teachings which are more like propaganda dressed up in religion.

To confirm the validity of my hypothesis, If we look at history we will see that there are some catastrophic events that inflicted the whole world with blood and genocide, yet God did not turn his anger and retaliate against them in spite of their crimes against humanity. God governs human nature with the laws of nature and does not interfere with its fate.

I am going to witness sporadic incidents that occurred in places from our Christian religious perspective are place of vice, such as the horrific massacre at the Orlando gay club in America last year and terror attacks at European concert venues whose victims were of various faiths, beliefs or atheists. Is it reasonable that God allowed these attacks to occur because they are non-believers or in a bad place? Of course not!. And in the same context, Westerners do not wait for heaven’s punishment for Murderer’s, but they appeal to their governments to deter offenders and to implement the law without waiting for divine intervention.

Accordingly, we must only demand that the law of the land be implemented and that we cling to our full rights without lament or invoking God, and let us always remember that God governs human nature in terms of human nature, so do not invoke the name of God as it fits only our inability to obtain our rights that are taken by pursuing our just demands claim from the unjust rulers.
